Your Mid-Year Goals Check-In

Can you believe we’re already halfway through 2023?! That means it’s time to check in with the goals you set way back in January, tick off the ones you have accomplished, reflect on the progress you have made so far and set any new goals you want to work towards in the second half of the year.

Here's how you can review your 2023 goals list to keep your dreams on track.

Reflect on your ‘why’

Ask yourself - is the key motivation behind your goals powerful enough to get you up off the couch and working on the goal you set for yourself? At the beginning of the year and most likely off the back of time off work over the holidays, it’s a lot easier to find motivation and energy to get stuck into your goals. As the year progresses and reality kicks in, motivation wanes and it can be hard to remember why we set these goals in the first place. That’s when we need to rely on our ingrained habits to continue taking action toward our goals. Set up small and manageable habits that align with your goals and your ‘why’, such as setting your gym clothes out the night before, reserving time to meal prep one night a week, putting money aside into savings each week or dedicating 1 hour each day to work on your career aspirations.

Define how you measure ‘success’

If your goal is to work on your fitness or cook more meals at home, it can be hard to quantify when you achieve that objective. Set measurable parameters so you can clearly determine when you are on the right track – e.g. I will cook at least two meals a week, or I will visit the gym at least three times a week. Having something to check off your weekly habit tracker can be a great motivator to keep up with your goals.

Make a list of what is and isn’t working

Maybe your goals have evolved or changed over the first 6 months of the year. Determine what habits you were able to easily integrate into your daily or weekly routine, and which you weren’t. This might include refreshing your vision board and making space for any new dreams that may have popped up.

Prioritise your list

Have you gone full-throttle and set too many goals for yourself? The key to success is setting smaller, more attainable goals that once complete lead to those bigger-picture successes!

Write out the steps you need to take in order to achieve a big goal, and then rank your goals according to what you would like to achieve first.

Reevaluate your goals and adjust your timeline

Maybe you achieved one of your goals quicker than you anticipated, or maybe one of your goals is taking longer to achieve than you originally planned. Or maybe you aren’t as interested in achieving a certain goal anymore. Reevaluate your goals list and reset your timeline to what you can realistically achieve in the next 6 months – if you have a goal that will take longer than 6 months, write out the steps you can take in the meantime to get one step closer to achieving it.

Celebrate what you have achieved so far

This may be the most important step of all – celebrating what you have already achieved! Look back at the year so far and check off all you have already accomplished - you may be pleasantly surprised at how much you have already done. Use this warm and fuzzy feeling as the motivation you need to stick with your goals for the remainder of the year.

Make your mid-year goal review a fun process by sitting down with a hot cup of coffee or tea, lighting a candle and writing out your goals list. A visual stimulus like a vision board is a fun tool to create and look at daily as a reminder of what you are working towards.

Here's to achieving all your dreams in 2023!
